Value Proposition
John is a fourth-generation rancher based in Cochrane, Alberta, proudly carrying on the Copithorne family tradition at 3J Farms. An internationally recognized purebred livestock auctioneer, he generously lends his talents to support local not-for-profit organizations. A vocal advocate for food security and traceability, John is also a strong proponent of environmental stewardship and agricultural education. He supports managed grazing as a way to reduce wildfire risk and return nutrients to the ecosystem. As a champion for responsible water management, the Copithorne family has invested in developing cattle uniquely suited to the local environment, reducing the need for intensive management. John and his son Tye can often be seen moving cattle through Glenbow Ranch Provincial Park, where the family has maintained a grazing lease for years. Glenbow is the only provincial park in Canada that operates as a working ranch, and John’s ongoing presence there reflects his deep commitment to both land and legacy. He has held numerous industry directorships and has been honoured many times for his contributions to both community and agriculture.
